This is the third book in Joey W. Hill's vampire series and I think the best yet. Danny is written as a waif who will kill you without a second thought and Dev seems to call to Hugh Jackman to play him. Not that this would ever be made into a movie - 'waaaayyy to hot sex-wise.
Congratulations, Ms. Hill - you've done it again!

A Vampire’s Claim had me in its thrall. Joey W. Hill pulled me in and didn’t let me go until the bitter end and even then I wanted more. This is the third book in the series, but the first one I’ve read. I was not confused in the least and enjoyed A Vampire’s Claim from the first word. Ms. Hill didn’t pull punches with her vampires. She is upfront with the violence these creatures hold. I think that is one of the things I loved. Too many vampire stories focus on making the creatures something they aren’t. Ms. Hill let me know right away that the vampires will kill and it wasn’t going to be some bad guy to make them feel better. The innocent aren’t protected in some code the vampires have. They are ruthless, but there is something about them that makes you want more.
A Vampire’s Claim built me up from the meeting between Daniela and Dev to the end of the story and I Joyfully Recommend that everyone should sink their teeth into A Vampire’s Claim.

A Vampire's Claim is so ardent with action and sex you won’t remember to breathe. When Joey Hill writes, her attention to detail is astounding. Every action, no matter how small, is taken into account. This is what separates the pro from the amateur. Every piercing glance and lingering touch will keep you turning the pages.
What do I think of this Australian Bushman? Well just think of an American cowboy take away the rope and replace it with a whip. Devlin is not the warm cuddly good ol’ boy kinda cowboy from the westerns alot of us are use to. More like a combination of a young Clint Eastwood and Hugh Jackman. Down and dirty and lusciously heart pulsating. The type your mama warned you about. Does that sound like a ride you want to take? Excellent because riding this cowboy never hurt so good.
In addition make a note of the cover for A Vampire's Claim. If it doesn’t motivate you to pick up and read this book, then you are in the wrong section at the bookstore. As with all of Ms. Hill’s work, the senses are a vital part of each story in the direct way they are used to incite the reader’s imagination. Wait until you find out just how that whip is used and… Hold on this is one of those, “I need to remember to breathe”, moments”. Long story short - KUDOS to Ms. Hill’s A Vampire's Claim on another stunning installment in her vampire series.

If there was ever a book that I’m not sure I liked, it's this one. I can’t say I enjoyed it even. Nevertheless, Joey’s powerful prose drew me in and kept me there. Driven to read every page, it’s dark, compelling, and rather disturbing at times. There are however, some tender moments and excellent Australian slang that I found amusing. The latter adds some light to an incredibly intense, dramatic novel.
It's a complex story. The characters and world building are exemplary and allows the reader an in depth knowledge of the hierarchy of the vampires and the humans who serve them. This enables the reader to understand the characters' motivations and what drives them -- which is no doubt why I felt driven to read every page. In fact, so much so, I’m looking forward to reading the next book set in this world. A Vampire’s Claim stands alone while still being part of the Vampire Queen Series.
Joey has me intrigued and hooked, very clever and not bad considering my original thoughts on this novel.

The Vampire’s Claim is a book that I feel I can’t recommend enough. It is filled with action, amazing vistas beautifully described by Ms. Hill and evocative encounters between the varied characters, but especially between Danny and Dev. A definite recommend, this one is going in my “To read over and over and over again” pile. If you aren’t already a fan of Ms. Hill, then you may want to pick this one up, as I’m pretty sure she’ll quickly sway you to her side of the erotic fence. Another fantastic offering from Joey W. Hill… I can’t wait to see what’s next in the Vampire chronicles.

Joey Hill has done it again in this her third installment in her vampire series. A VAMPIRE'S CLAIM is a winner!!! The Mark of the Vampire Queen's Servant is where we first meet this spunky couple. (SPUNKY? Now there's a word I bet you never thought you see in relation to one Ms. Hill's couples). Joey Hill's books are rough and soft along with Philosophical and even spiritual. Don't forget, too, they are always great love stories with plenty of hot, sweaty and down and dirty sex scenes. Bravo, Ms. Hill!!
Now let's talk about her covers in this series shall we? A Vampire's Claim doesn't let us down in that area either. The sense of sight is used in all its glory. Anyone who has read Joey Hill's work knows the important part the senses play in each of her stories. The woman is a master with details. You almost feel like you are eavesdropping in on her character's intimate moments. Every flick of the wrist or subtle caress is apparent, and felt. It was the cover for A Vampires Queen's Servant that first caught my attention and I bought it without even knowing what is was about. I had never heard of Joey Hill. Now I am a fan and I've read everything she has written and have pre-ordered the next in this series, Beloved Vampire.

Fans of Joey W. Hill are going to love this new trip into her paranormal world. I’m officially a fan-girl of Joey W. Hill’s paranormal scorchers. Her stories are dark and erotic, twisted and engaging. Littered with enough quips to keep a smile on your face and laced with erotic sex scenes that will leave you breathless, Hill is truly a master at her craft

Joey W. Hill delivers the third tale in her VAMPIRE QUEEN saga, A VAMPIRE’S CLAIM. This story takes us back in time to when Lady Daniela and Dev first met. Readers were first introduced to this charismatic couple in the previous story, THE MARK OF THE VAMPIRE QUEEN, and I was delighted to learn this new book explores their relationship.
I do have to say that the story started out a little bit slow for me. The beginning moved at a pace that was a little slow, yet still fascinating. It didn’t take long for things to pick up, however, and no matter the pacing, all of it was good. Although I’m a fast reader, all of the VAMPIRE QUEEN books have been slower reads for me, and I believe it is due to the intricate politics of the vampire society that Ms. Hill has crafted in these books. This isn’t a bad thing, but it does slow me down a little.
A VAMPIRE’S CLAIM is a fantastic continuation of an addictive series, and will undoubtedly thrill fans of Joey W. Hill’s just as it did me. Lovers of paranormal romance who are new to this series will have no trouble diving in with this book first if they so wish, as it works remarkably well as a standalone novel.

Several years ago, one of my friends said that I just had to read Joey Hill. Now I wish I had read all of them. I find Ms Hill’s writing rich in information, story and character development. This is the third book in the series but a potential reader does not have to read the previous two books to understand what is happening as there is enough information provided to the reader to grasp the overarching storyline.
When writing a contemporary character from another nationality it can be difficult to capture the essence of that person and characteristics of the nation and readers of that nationality will feel protective and can be super critical of the writer if they get it wrong. However, I feel that Ms Hill has made very good work at capturing the essence of the 1950s Australian male including aspects of their manner, language and turn of phrase.

"Stunning prequel gives us a look back at the start of Lady Daniela and Dev's relationship…
This is the prequel to Ms. Hill's two previous novels about this Vampire Queen. While it was hard to set my mind in 1950s Australia, I gradually got there and it was definitely worth it. This gives us a look at Dev and Lady Daniela we haven't seen before. While it is a very, very hot read and deals with Bondage -- Domination and Submission, Sadism and Masochism, it's also driven by emotion and pulls you deeply into the story. The setting is very realistic and easy to picture and the storyline very fresh. I enjoyed it a lot, as I have all Ms. Hill's novels and am ready for another. A good read.

Besides a great vampire romance by an author marking the sub-genre fans as loyal followers, (see THE VAMPIRE QUEEN'S SERVANT and THE MARK OF THE VAMPIRE QUEEN) Joey W. Hill provides a strong sense of time and place. The story line insures readers will be in the remote Outback as Ike and Elizabeth rise to power. Filled with action and two strong lead protagonists, readers will appreciate this enticing invigorating thriller.

Both Dev and Danny are vulnerable in different ways. While there are both a sexual and mental power plays (no surprise in a Joey Hill book), I feel that both of their strengths and weaknesses were well defined and did not continually fall along generalized sexual and social mores. Danny retains her Alpha-predator persona at all times without seeming imperious or ridiculous. Dev is able to both take and receive all sorts of punishment, yet he retains his aura of strength and dignity at all times. Together they form a true partnership, with each of their strengths balancing the other’s weaknesses. I think this is a difficult concept to convey in a world that is focused on Vampires being total alpha animals, and I believe it was achieved.
Dev and Danny’s partnership was an important facet of this book…I hope Joey revisits the Vampire world again.
